Schroders retains top responsible investment rating from UN-backed body
Schroders is pleased to announce that it has retained the highest possible rating for its overall approach to responsible investment, according to the influential United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).
The PRI, a global investor initiative, has awarded Schroders with an A+ ranking for 2017, making it the third successive year that the highest grade has been assigned to Schroders’ Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach.
Of the 935 asset managers assessed by the PRI, only about 20% received the A+ ranking.
Schroders received the top ranking for four specific ESG investment categories; Listed Equity- Incorporation and Active Ownership, as well as Fixed Income – Corporate Non-Financial and Sovereign, Supranational and Agency.
Each year, the PRI’s signatories are required to disclose their responsible investment process to the PRI through a detailed reporting framework. This is reviewed and assigned a rating by the PRI.
Jessica Ground, Global Head of Stewardship, Schroders, said:
“We are proud that our continued focus on responsible investment has been recognised once more by the PRI. Receiving an A+ ranking for the third year in a row demonstrates our commitment to sustainability is not merely a box-ticking approach.
“We believe it is our duty as an active manager to meet the highest standards of investment stewardship. It should not be a ‘nice to have’. Integrating ESG analysis into our investment processes is essential in working to secure long-term, sustainable returns in an increasingly challenged investment environment for our clients.”
The PRI has some 1,750 signatories, spanning investment managers, asset owners and service providers, from over 60 countries, representing about $70 trillion in assets. Set up in 2006, its goal is to encourage investors to incorporate sustainability into their decision-making.
Earlier this year, Schroders was ranked among the world’s top fund managers for managing the financial risks of climate change for its clients, by the Asset Owners Disclosure Project.
It has also topped an influential survey by campaign group ShareAction, which graded Europe’s asset managers according to how well they have embedded responsible investment into their processes.
