In our Technology teams you could be solving complex technical problems, helping to provide high-quality solutions or enhancing our client services.
You’ll join one of our teams, working on a specific designated business project. This will offer a fantastic introduction to how technology supports investment management and could even lead to a full-time job after you graduate.
Over eight weeks, you’ll enjoy a range of training in technical and interpersonal skills. It’s the kind of learning that will stand you in good stead throughout your future career.
We invest in our Internship programme to make it one of the best around. You’ll experience challenging work, with real responsibility on projects that will influence our business. One of these will involve working with other interns and presenting the results to senior managers.
Just as important, you’ll have the chance to build a valuable network of contacts – from other interns to highly experienced employees. In fact, our ‘lunch and learn sessions’ give you the opportunity to discuss possible directions for your future career with senior managers.
Complete a year-long Industrial Placement in our Technology division and you will get your hands on the latest systems, applications and platforms and help us to solve problems and create the high-quality solutions that enable us to better deliver for our clients.
You will join one of two innovative teams – Distribution Data Technology or Development/Software Engineering.
In Distribution Data Technology you will be constantly on the lookout for opportunities to improve the way we use data. In the process, you will enjoy in-depth exposure to disciplines ranging from data modelling to scientific analysis of data and software engineering.
In Development/Software Engineering you will help manage all of our digital technologies, make technical changes to support our business and get involved in projects that embrace technologies like AngularJS, .Net Web API, EPiServer and Angular Material Design.
Whichever team you’re in, you will learn from world-class professionals – supportive colleagues who are keen to see you succeed and who’ll encourage you to push yourself and discover how much you’re capable of.
On our two-year Technology graduate programme, you’ll develop the breadth of skills and experience you need to become a future leader in our business. This will involve a series of rotations in a number of our technical groups.
These groups cover different areas of our business. In Investment, we manage the investment platforms and operational data. Our Distribution team works with web, CRM, marketing and distribution systems and corporate platforms. One group supports all applications across our business, while another manages ITIL service delivery, incidents and problems. We have specialist groups covering our IT infrastructure, project management, and technical architecture and business consultancy. There are also teams that support our Asia/Pacific, European and American regional offices.
Whichever teams you join, you’ll hone and build on your technical skills developing innovative products and solutions. Working on a variety of projects, it’ll give you the chance to discover which area of technology you enjoy most.
Your training programme will give you insights into the investment management business. In fact, within four weeks, you’ll be ready to take the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) exam. From then on, you’ll work on a variety of special projects that will test your intellect and give you the chance to use your initiative.
You’ll be using a wide variety of technologies to design and develop solutions that make a real difference to our business. That could involve building new applications to support our front office investment desks or investment risk. Or you could be enhancing or upgrading an existing platform to support back office operations and data. Whatever you’re involved in, you’ll be at the centre of our business, gaining experience through the full development lifecycle.
It’s not just about technical skills. To develop business solutions, you’ll need to understand how our business operates. So you’ll build your knowledge of how we manage funds, engage our clients and market our products, as well as our approach to risk and how we develop our business.
You’ll be engaging with users, understanding business needs and designing and developing complete solutions, from databases and services to UI. This won’t just give you experience of a wide range of tools, technologies and methodologies. You’ll also have the chance to think creatively about solutions and put forward fresh ideas.
You’ll join a team that identifies business needs and decides on the best solution. These solutions may involve a combination of approaches, from developing new systems and improving processes, to organisational change, strategic planning and policy development.
In this team you’ll gain exposure to the entire Schroders business. Working across all our divisions, you’ll advise on changes to the business platform and how it might affect the IT application architecture.
It’s challenging and complex work, as the amount of change increases. You’ll play a key role in ensuring we introduce solutions that don’t restrict our capabilities or future growth.
In Infrastructure, you could join the team that ensures we have all the hardware, applications and network resources we need to operate globally. Alternatively, you might be managing the quality of our IT services, including helping to manage service suppliers.
Who we’re looking for
Your personal qualities are as important as your technical skills. So you’ll need to be passionate, committed and ambitious with the drive and initiative to build strong working relationships.
We’re always pushing technology forward, so you’ll need to combine logical thinking with the versatility and desire to solve new problems. Add a passion for creating technical solutions that make services better for users and you’ll enjoy the chance to gain an exciting range of technical experience.
With a strong academic record, you’ll be in your penultimate degree year and predicted to gain at least a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent. Or you’ll be a final year student who plans to pursue a Masters year after the internship. Ideally you’ll have some knowledge and interest in programming, development, or technology infrastructure.
You will be looking for a placement role as part of your university degree. As long as you have a strong academic background, your degree discipline isn’t important but you must have an interest in programming, development or technology infrastructure, and be keen to use your passion for data, technology and analysis to build solutions and make services better for users.
We believe personal qualities are critical too. So you should bring us plenty of drive, initiative and versatility, plus a real flair for logical thinking. Eager to solve problems, and ready to seize every opportunity to learn and get involved, you will be fired up by the chance to push technology forward.
If you’re excited about the opportunity to join a technical environment that’s always looking to push the boundaries of technology, this is the programme for you.
It’s not all about your technical skills. It’s about your commitment and passion for tackling new issues and suggesting innovative ideas. Your ability to communicate with users at all levels to understand their needs. Your logical approach to solving complex problems. And your ambition to use your skills to meet the demands of a global business.
You’ll need a strong academic background, including at least a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent in any discipline. Ideally you’ll also have some knowledge and interest in programming, development, or technology infrastructure.
