Trainee and apprenticeship programme
Our traineeship and apprenticeship programmes will provide you with a great insight into and understanding of our business while acquiring the skills and knowledge you’ll be able to apply through your career.
Applications for our 2017 Traineeship and Apprenticeship Programmes open in February 2017. Read on to find out more.
Traineeship Programme (12 months)
Our traineeship is a 12-month fixed-term contract for both school leavers and graduates. It will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience and training through paid, hands-on work experience. It is designed to set you up for a long-term career in financial services – whether you’re a school leaver undecided about university and looking to explore your options or a graduate looking to get into the industry for the first time.
With dedicated training from internal and external experts, you’ll gain understanding of the skills needed to succeed at Schroders, as well as receiving the opportunity to further develop those skills. Support with study for professional qualifications is also provided, and, of course, you’ll get the chance to build strong relationships with specialists across the firm.
Apprenticeship Programme (permanent)
Whether you’re a school leaver or a graduate our apprenticeship programme could be for you. We offer apprenticeship opportunities in many different teams across our business and each one enables you to earn while you learn. Over the course of your first two years you would spend time each week training and gaining the skills you need to build your expertise and establish yourself within a leading global asset management business.
All our apprenticeships are accredited standards so after your training you would not only have robust experience in your field of work but you would also have an accredited qualification that will propel your career forwards.
Who we're looking for
Whether you are a school leaver or a graduate, and whether you are interested in our traineeship or our apprenticeship programme, we’re looking for people who have the talent and drive to learn new skills and take on new challenges.
This means you’ll need to be an ambitious self-starter – someone with the determination to make the most of the opportunities we offer to learn about our business and a pro-active attitude that will relish the opportunity to earn while you learn.
We have traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities in multiple teams across our business. Whichever team you join, you’ll be given training so that you learn about all aspects of our business. You could be involved in IT, Compliance, Tax, Risk, Operations or Sales and Marketing. Whichever team you join, you'll be supported in developing not only your technical understanding of asset management, but also your competencies and interpersonal skills. Select the apply now button to view all the opportunities available to you when they open to applications in February.
What you'll need
Academically, you’ll need at least 96 UCAS points at ‘A’ Level, BTEC or equivalent. But we’re looking for people with more than just academic qualifications.
You’ll need to match our Schroders values of integrity, passion, teamwork, innovation and excellence. We also look for particular skills that are useful in all our business areas. We don’t expect you to be strong in them all, so when you apply, let us know which areas are your strongest and we’ll try to make sure you join the business area that suits your strengths.
You should enjoy working with computers and systems, and using them to solve problems.
Planning and process management skills
You should be ready to work accurately on a number of projects to meet strict deadlines.
Written and verbal skills
You’ll be a confident and effective communicator, with the ability to grasp complex issues and find solutions, and explain them effectively.
Numerical and analytical skills
We’re a financial organisation, so naturally you’ll need to be comfortable working with data and figures and using them to support decisions.
Investment 2020 initiative
Our Trainee Programme is part of the Investment 2020 initiative. We launched this with other leading investment firms to offer young people careers in finance. You’ll find more details on the dedicated website.
