This is a year-long, paid work experience programme for school leavers where you’ll gain a great insight and understanding of our business while acquiring skills and knowledge you’ll be able to apply throughout your career.
If you’re a school leaver and you’re not sure if university is your next step, our one-year trainee programme could be for you. It provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience and quality training through paid, hands-on work. It is designed to set you up for a long-term career in financial services – primarily in asset management.
With dedicated training from internal and external experts, you’ll gain a full understanding of the skills needed to succeed at Schroders, as well as getting the opportunity to further develop those skills. Support with studying for professional qualifications is also provided and, of course, you’ll get the chance to build strong relationships with specialists across the firm.
Who we're looking for
We’re looking for people who first of all, have an obvious enthusiasm for working at Schroders. And of course, the talent and drive to learn new skills and take on big challenges.
This means you’ll need to be an ambitious self-starter – someone with the determination to make the most of the opportunities we offer to learn about our business.
As a trainee, you’ll spend a year learning about all aspects of our business, during which you will be assigned to one of our teams. You could be involved in IT, Legal and Compliance, or Operations and Finance. Whichever team you join, you'll be supported in developing not only your technical understanding of asset management, but also your competencies and interpersonal skills.
What you'll need
Academically, you’ll need at least 240 UCAS points at ‘A’ Level or equivalent. But we’re looking for people with more than just academic qualifications.
You’ll need to match our Schroders values of integrity, passion, teamwork, innovation and excellence. We also look for particular skills that are useful in all our business areas. We don’t expect you to be strong in them all, so when you apply, let us know which areas are your strongest and we’ll try to make sure you join the business area that suits your strengths.
You should enjoy working with computers and systems, and using them to solve problems.
Planning and process management skills
You should be ready to work accurately on a number of projects to meet strict deadlines.
Written and verbal skills
You’ll be a confident and effective communicator, with the ability to grasp complex issues and find solutions, and explain them effectively.
Numerical and analytical skills
We’re a financial organisation, so naturally you’ll need to be comfortable working with data and figures and using them to support decisions.
Investment 2020 initiative
Our Trainee Programme is part of the Investment 2020 initiative. We launched this with other leading investment firms to offer young people careers in finance. You’ll find more details on the dedicated website.
