Our culture values and promotes diversity, harnessing individual strengths and differences to surface the best ideas and insights. To give you a flavour of what it is like working for Schroders please read through what some of our people have to say about their experiences as part of the Schroder Family.

I started my career in financial services on the graduate training programme at Barings before moving to the Bank for International Settlements in 1991. In 2002 I became Head of Asset Management for the BIS and a member of the Banking Management Committee, responsible for the firm’s overall banking operations. I joined Schroders in 2006 as Head of Official Institutions and in mid 2009 took up the additional role of Head of Institutional Business in Asia. I am currently based in Hong Kong and am working with my colleagues in Asia to help grow Schroders’ institutional business across the region.
Schroders is unique in that it offers entrepreneurial individuals the flexibility and autonomy to build their businesses, allowing them to make a significant contribution to the overall profitability of the firm. You are recognised and rewarded for this contribution and are given increased responsibility and opportunities for personal and professional development. We are a global and diverse organisation with 32 offices in 25 countries (as of 30 June 2010) and encourage employees who want to gain international experience.
Schroders has a strong pool of intellectual capital within the senior management team, all of whom have an acute appreciation for the weight of the Schroders brand and the opportunities that our 200 year heritage affords us. The stability and independence of our ownership differentiates us and means that we are able to take a long term approach to meeting our clients' needs.

In some ways my career so far has been quite straightforward; I’ve always focused on global tactical asset allocation strategies! I started off at Deutsche Asset Management as a graduate trainee in 1997 and eventually rose to the level of Head of Asset Allocation in the UK as well as being the fund manager of the Deutsche tactical asset allocation fund. I then moved to Insight Investment in 2005 to run a global macro fund before joining Schroders in 2007 as Head of UK Multi Asset.
I am currently Head of Multi Asset, World ex Asia, responsible for investment on behalf of all UK, European and US multi asset clients. I am also a member of the Global Asset Allocation Committee and Fund Manager of the Diversified Growth Fund which has £2bn of assets under management.
What impressed me about Schroders is that, as a business, it has evolved consistently over the last 200 years and continues to be innovative and entrepreneurial. I believe this is because passionate, independently minded and driven individuals are given every opportunity to shape their approach to meeting client needs and make a direct contribution to the profitability of the business.
As a fund manager who invests across all asset classes, I also enjoy the benefit of the breadth and depth of expertise here at Schroders. Being part of a thriving investment community improves the quality of my decisions and makes my job more fun.

My career in financial services began with the Nat West clearing bank on their Management Development Programme, a great training ground and an opportunity for me to learn the fundamentals of the industry. For the next 15 years I made a conscious career choice to gain experience across the industry as I saw the benefits of understanding the 'end to end' cycle in financial services. I enjoyed roles with custodian banks and brokers.
I joined Schroders in 1999 as Deputy Head of Custody and I now manage the Portfolio Operations function which comprises Trade Processing, Asset Servicing, Broker/Custodian Management and Support/Development teams. My focus for the business is to ensure my teams deliver high quality, cost effective and risk managed services to our Investment and Distribution front office teams. One of the ways I achieve this is by ensuring we recruit talented, delivery focused individuals and ensure they are provided with opportunities for personal and professional development. I am continually challenged in my role and have been fortunate enough to work on industry leading projects such as the Book of Record implementation, a multi-million pound programme of change to replace legacy accounting, pricing and performance measurement systems with new, best of breed technologies.
I enjoy working for a family owned firm which values its independence and fosters a culture of collaborative working. Schroders recruit and develop talented individuals and I have found no shortage of opportunities for career progression and personal development. Personal ownership of my career path planning is very motivating.
We are continually evolving as a business and offer individuals within Portfolio Operations a challenging and stimulating working environment where outstanding contributions are recognised, valued and rewarded.
