Schroders Capital, the private assets division of global asset manager Schroders, announces today that it has appointed Andrew Haskins as Head of Strategy and Investor Advisory, Schroders Capital real estate Asia Pacific, a newly created role.
Based in Hong Kong, Haskins will report to Andrew Moore, Head of Schroders Capital’s real estate division in Asia Pacific, and will be responsible for providing insight on markets, asset classes and best risk weighted investment strategies, as well as providing the team with market advice and forecasts. He will support the existing team of highly experienced professionals, complementing their work of selecting, managing and enhancing property assets to create value for institutional clients.
Haskins, a veteran of real estate and equities markets with 33 years of experience across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, will work closely with the real estate and broader private assets teams in Schroders Capital, helping to ensure the delivery of unified and consistent investment solutions that serve the needs of the team’s increasingly global client base.
According to preliminary data from Real Capital Analytics, aggregate investment property transactions in the Asia Pacific region rose to a record level of US$209 billion in 2021, equivalent to a 25% increase from 2020. Asian Association of Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (ANREV)’s 2022 Investment Intentions survey also indicated that 70% of institutional real estate investors intend to increase their allocations to the Asia Pacific region this year.
Andrew Moore, Head of Schroders Capital’s real estate division in Asia Pacific, said:
“Driven by ongoing urbanisation, expansion of the middle class, and a vibrant technology sector, the Asia Pacific region has some of the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing real estate markets. Growth in real GDP, urban population and size of the middle class are expected to outstrip other regions over most of this decade.
“We are seeing increasing demand for alternative asset types such as multi-family apartments, senior living and life sciences property. Such development is creating new investment opportunities beyond the traditional areas of office, retail, as well as industrial and logistics real estate. Our enhanced strategic and forecasting capability with Andrew Haskins’ joining will reinforce our team’s ability to provide investors with solutions to capitalise on growth trends in these areas.”
Over his career, Haskins, a graduate of Cambridge University in the UK, has served global institutional clients for Mercury Asset Management, HSBC, Nomura and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities. Before joining Schroders, he spent six years as Asia head of research and Asia head of strategic advisory services for Colliers.
Andrew Haskins, Head of Strategy and Investor Advisory, Schroders Capital’s real estate division in Asia Pacific, said:
“I am excited to become part of this dynamic and growing real estate team, and to rejoin the buyside with a highly respected investment firm. Schroders Capital’s real estate team in Asia Pacific specialises in value-add investment strategies, and the team’s strong track record illustrates its ability to combine top-down strategic thinking with in-depth property-level expertise. I look forward to contributing my experience in research, analysis, forecasting and financial modelling to provide additional value to the team, our investments and our clients.”
An active management and hospitality mindset enables the Schroders Capital’s real estate team to create value through upgrade, repositioning, or complete overhaul of the properties that it invests in. It also adheres to the Schroders Group’s commitment to sustainability, using ESG integration to support alpha generation and risk management.
