We’re joining over a billion of people around the world and celebrating Diwali across our global offices.
Observed by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, Diwali is known as a festival of lights and is the celebration of new beginnings. The dispelling of darkness with light symbolises the triumph of good over evil and our global headquarters will light up in a festive display in tribute.
Our Schroders Hindu network (SHN) will be sharing hope and cheer with colleagues through a series of events; in London the network has designed a bespoke celebratory lunch with delicious desserts and traditional delights. While in Singapore, colleagues will be hosting a virtual event with dance performances and music renditions from across many APAC locations including – Indonesia, Japan, Australia, China, Hongkong, Taiwan & Korea.
Mirra Sondhi, Head of Technology Risk and Chair of Schroders Hindu network explains: “Hindus observe Diwali over a period of five days and Diwali’s enlightening messages of hope, goodness and community are poignant and resonate universally. Wherever you are in the world you’ll see people illuminating their homes with Diyas (earthen lamps) and Rangolis (colourful decorative patterns), donning their finest clothes and exchanging gifts.”

Schroders Hindu Network
We have 13 employee-led groups focused on driving inclusion across our business. SHN was established in February 2017 and is aimed at celebrating Hindu culture and Indian heritage and is an active voice in championing ethnic diversity across all levels in the workplace, career progression and giving back to communities.
The global network is a platform for individuals to improve cultural awareness and drive aspirations both in their professional and personal lives.
They’ve run sessions with industry experts to support career progression, organised events on cultural awareness and helped with the design of the inclusive mentoring program for ethnic minorities at Schroders.
Throughout the pandemic, SHN have focused on maintaining a sense of community and belonging for our people through a series of activities to be completed at home. From circulating exotic Indian recipes and making a roti sharing the weekly thought from Hindu Scriptures to re-enforce the message of hope and community. They further campaigned to raise awareness of the devastation in India during the second wave and a number of fundraisers were organised and donations pledged to charities working on the ground.

Driving inclusion at Schroders
We actively seek to create a culture where inclusion is a priority across all levels of the business, where creating an inclusive environment is everyone’s responsibility, and where the focus is shifted from unconscious exclusion to conscious inclusion.
