Schroders today announces it has been awarded the highest rating, A, in CDP’s 2022 climate change assessment.
This top ranking was achieved by only 2% of the nearly 15,000 companies assessed by CDP, evidencing Schroders’ commitment to corporate transparency and performance on climate change.
This year, Schroders’ score reflected numerous sustainability-related achievements, including being one of the first asset managers to have its science-based targets validated by the SBTi.
Madeleine Cobb, Global Head of Corporate Sustainability, Schroders, said:
“CDP sets a very high bar for its climate change ‘A list’ and so we had to demonstrate leadership across the breadth of our climate commitments and actions. The fact that we have validated science-based targets covering our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, strong governance and risk management processes, along with good data transparency has resulted in us being acknowledged as leading the way.”
CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognised as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. It aligns with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure's framework and forms the reporting mechanism for RE100 (the global corporate renewable energy initiative) and the Net Zero Asset Managers’ initiative.
By scoring companies and cities, CDP aims to incentivise and guide them through disclosure towards becoming leaders on environmental transparency and action. A detailed and independent methodology is used to assess companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and the demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets.
In 2022, over 680 investors with over US$130 trillion in assets, and 280 major purchasers with US$6.4 trillion in procurement spend, requested companies to disclose data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through CDP’s platform. A record-breaking 18,700 companies responded.
Dexter Galvin, Global Director of Corporations and Supply Chains at CDP, said:
“Congratulations to all the companies on this year’s A List; environmental transparency is the first vital step towards a net-zero and nature-positive future. In a year of ever-increasing environmental concerns around the world – from extreme weather to unprecedented losses to nature – the need for transformational, urgent and collaborative change is more critical than ever. We must decarbonise half of global GHG emissions and eliminate deforestation by 2030, alongside achieving water security on the same timescale – there is no route to 1.5°C without nature. As CDP continues to raise the bar on what qualifies as climate, forests and water leadership, we hope to see the ambitions and actions of companies on the A List – and those wanting a place on it – do the same.”
