Tackling food poverty with The Felix Project – our new Schroders Giving partner

The UK food industry generates almost two million tonnes of good, edible surplus food each year, we want to play our part in alleviating this challenge.

We’ve teamed up with The Felix Project, our latest UK charity partnership, who redistribute surplus food to vulnerable people across London, helping to reduce inequalities and food poverty.

Covid-19 amplified the huge need for their services and looking forwards their kitchen and depot will provide up to 6,000 meals per day, through their network of 807 charities and 173 schools, distributing to those unable to cook for themselves.

This food helps children and families, those on low income or who have lost their jobs, the homeless, refugees, domestic abuse survivors, the elderly and keyworkers in London. Delivered on the same day they are cooked or the following day, 1.5 million meals each year will reach people in need at a cost of only 68p per meal.

Our partnership will support The Felix Project to continue redistributing and cooking nourishing meals for vulnerable people, as well as setting up their new dedicated kitchen in Tower Hamlets, London, which launches this week.

Louise Bingham, Corporate Partnerships Manager:

“The Felix Project is over the moon to have the support of Schroders, creating a strategic partnership that is helping us towards our vision: A London where no-one goes hungry and good food is never wasted. Already the team have rallied around us, giving their commitment through both time and funds, and we cannot thank them enough.”

The Felix Project was the chosen charity for this year’s foodie festival, Taste of London. Over the two weeks, Schroders employees volunteered almost 80 hours of their time, through our volunteer scheme, to support the event and help to promote the vital work The Felix Project does.
