What is Outsourced CIO with Schroders Solutions?

Outsourced CIO (OCIO) is the delegation of some, or all, of the management of an organisation's investment portfolio. Importantly, under an OCIO arrangement, you can retain as much control of the strategy as you wish, in particular over key decisions such as strategic asset allocation. An OCIO partnership with Schroders Solutions is a client-centric approach that puts a £228 billion* solutions business to work for your organisation, meaning you can be more confident of achieving your goals.

An understanding and focus on solving your challenges

Schroders Solutions is an independent unit within the wider Schroders group. Created specifically to partner with clients to solve their unique investment challenges, we work closely with our partners to understand both their requirements and preferences within an OCIO solution. Many of our OCIO team have previously been our clients. It is that unique perspective of the challenge and having the experience to view it through the lens of the client, that further enhances our OCIO partnerships.

Delivering you our full capabilities

Our OCIO partnerships deliver the whole of Schroders’ investment, risk management and operational capability to our clients, alongside the consulting & advisory expertise from Schroders Solutions. Delivered within an open architecture framework, this offers our OCIO clients an extended workbench of strategic advice, investment delivery and portfolio construction, coupled with value-add services such as training and education, senior management engagement and access to our proprietary suite of sustainability tools. This full spectrum approach allows our OCIO partners to improve the expertise and flexibility required to navigate today’s constantly evolving market environments.

A partnership for progress

For us, sustainability isn’t just about making better investment decisions – it is also about continuing to push for progress. Our active ownership ethos means we engage with the assets we invest in, using our influence to encourage them to employ more sustainable practices in order to enhance their long-term value. We have built our sustainable investing experience over the past 20 years, developing our thematic sustainability research and a suite of proprietary tools. Our research and tools provide insights which will help our OCIO partners understand the complexities of sustainability risks and opportunities across their portfolio as this market continues to rapidly evolve.

How can we help?

Centrica’s experience

"The Trustees of Centrica’s pension schemes established a best in class implementation arrangement with their delegation to Schroders as OCIO. This was a significant and market leading move of assets and people, that places the Schemes well moving forward, with efficient, effective implementation of our investment strategy, combined with oversight and engagement at a strategic level provided by a highly experienced team.

Having a dedicated OCIO with effective powers of attorney proved extremely helpful during the UK gilt crisis, the team reacted swiftly and decisively, a high quality organisation and team through and through."

Allan Whalley, Independent Trustee

“Put simply, with an OCIO partnership you can enhance your governance structure to allow you to more confidently reach your longer-term goals, whilst also reducing your overall costs due to available efficiencies in scale.”
