Making An Impact: Suhairi
Meet Suhairi, Athlete-Activist
Find out how SportsSG athete, Suhairi, is contributing to a more sustainable future.
Hi Suhairi, tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a Team Singapore long jumper. As a para-athlete, I am proud to represent my country, and also the disability community in international competitions.
How do you carry sustainability through your everyday life?
I want to be a help to others. In my day-to-day life, when I train with my juniors, I try to be a role model, and motivate them to believe in themselves. Every encouragement and gesture can be a seed of something bigger. Beyond that, I work with organisations to make sports accessible, through donation drives and outreach.
What does being an athlete-activist mean to you?
It means using my influence as an athlete to fight for people like myself. I can share my experience to encourage and inspire juniors. I can also prove to mainstream people that we deserve the same recognition and opportunities.
What is the one action we can all do to live a more sustainable lifestyle?
Stay open-minded. Give us opportunities to work, learn, live and train alongside everybody else.
