There are c1.5m people with a learning disability or autism in the UK. Supporting individuals to live independently in the community can be crucial for their wellbeing and also creates significant public savings vs institutional alternatives. People with a learning disability or autism can face stigma and discrimination, resulting in significant challenges for equality of access across all aspects of daily life – care and support, community access and social contact, housing, money, education and employment opportunities.
Investable Solution
Thera Trust is a national charitable group delivering a range of care, support and services to people with a learning disability or autism. Thera helps individuals with all aspects of their daily lives, to manage their tenancy, build friendships and participate in their local community and achieve educational and employment outcomes. These services are largely through contracts with more than 80 Local Authorities, the NHS, and other organisations. Thera has issued four charity bonds to date, with investor capital used for the expansion of services and provision of specialist adapted housing, with repayments from contract income.

Impact and User Voice
Thera Trust ensures that the voice of people with a learning disability or autism is always heard and that they are at the centre of everything it does and the support it provides. Examples of this commitment are: individuals with lived experience of learning disability or autism assess the services Thera Trust provides and hold senior leadership positions within the organisation – 44% of the Board and 37% of executives.
